"HOLY DAY" STAGED READING

HD-poster-opt3-3-website.jpg

In November, Jillian's theatre company The New Natives produced a staged reading of “Holy Day” written by acclaimed Australian playwright Andrew Bovell at Theater Lab in New York City. The reading was directed by Barbara Rubin.

“Holy Day” is a powerful piece full of darkness and mystery, it is set on the white frontier in mid-nineteenth century Australia and tells the story of four women and their men. Delving into Australia's complex and difficult history, the play deals with themes of race and justice and explores the conflict between new beginnings and stolen pasts. This award-winning work resonates across international borders and remains extremely relevant in our current political and cultural climate.

The playwright attended the reading and Jillian, as both producer and actor, was thrilled to once again work with Andrew in the room, bringing the play one step closer to a full production in 2019.
